Ex-Premier League striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has been sacked by Coventry City after playing just 69 minutes for the Sky Blues. Nicknamed the Yak, Yakubu had a long career in the English football featuring for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton, Leicester, Blackburn and Reading.
The former Julius Berger striker played for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles for 10 years, scoring 21 goals in 57 appearances.
Yakubu made headlines early this year when he signed for the League One strugglers on a deal until the end of the season.
The former Nigerian international suffered a hamstring injury against the Robins and Coventry have now agreed to quash the deal they entered with him, Coventry Telegraph writes.
This was announced in a club statement Wednesday, which said the severance of his contract is with immediate effect.
“”The club can announce that former Everton striker Yakubu has had his contract mutually terminated, with immediate effect,” the statement read. The club would like to wish Yakubu all the best for the future.”
