It is commonly said that when you are in Lagos, you must be smart because doing otherwise could be dangerous.

Or how will one describe a scenario where a phone stuffed with ‘fufu’, a local morsel made from cassava, was sold to a woman in Lagos.

It was reported that the woman purchased the mobile phone at Lagos Island and on opening the battery compartment, what she saw next forced an ocean of tears down her cheek.

Situations like this are common in the Centre of Excellence, especially at the Computer Village in Ikeja, the state capital.

Sellers of these ‘fufu’ stuffed phones wave good phones to their potential victims and test them in their presence and when a price is agreed, they tell the victim they want to package the product and in the process, swap the original phone with the fake one.

Sometimes, they warn their victims to quickly leave the spot because of some policemen who raid the area and in fear, the victim leaves without re-checking the sold phone.
