Why your body is important to your career as an actress — Hilda Dokubo
Nollywood screen diva, Hilda Dokubo has given reasons why the body of an entertainer is important to their career.
In a recent interview, the politician advised entertainers to take care of their bodies because it is their most valuable asset.
She said, “Your body is your most valuable tool. Take care of it, as you cannot perform without it. Neglecting your health can hinder your career and personal life. Cherish and protect your well-being, and avoid compromising it.”
Furthermore, the actress advised her colleagues to give their best to every project they handle, adding that building a good relationship with their fans will also help to boost their craft.
“One key lesson I have learnt in pursuing an acting career is commitment. You need to give your best every time. The success of a movie isn’t solely in the actor’s hands; it ultimately depends on the viewers’ reception. As an actor, you must focus on delivering a genuine interpretation of your role. Be committed and avoid being half-hearted.
“I have also learnt that interacting with people, whether they are part of your cast, crew, or audience, is crucial. Building good relationships is vital. Do not let arrogance or a sense of superiority alienate you from those around you. Understand that your work is about mirroring society, so set clear goals and values. Let your values shine through in your roles, even when playing diverse characters,” she noted.
She added that it was important to be a team player and not to see oneself as being above others. According to her, the entertainment industry thrives on teamwork.
Dokubo also stated that many people only see her success, without knowing the story behind it.
On her she became an actress, she narrated, “I wanted to study Law for my mother, because she wanted me to be a lawyer. But at that time, there was a religious crisis in the north. So, I came back to the University of Port Harcourt, and studied Theatre Arts, as a diploma course.”
