Why I prefer matchmaking platforms to traditional ways of finding love – Motunde

Actress and content creator, Motunde Sogunle, who is popular for her depiction of Motunde, the fictitious daughter of a social media character, Mr Macaroni, has disclosed that she prefers finding love on matchmaking platforms than the traditional ways.

According to Motunde, who acknowledged that traditional methods are also valid, matchmaking platforms give room for several options.

She said, “Finding love on matchmaking platforms can be a viable option in today’s digital age because of a lot of complexities. Although traditional methods of meeting people are still valuable, online matchmaking platforms offer a unique opportunity to connect with a broader range of individuals. A person should just approach the platforms with an open mind and cautious optimism, ensuring that they remain authentic and discerning throughout the process.”

Also, Motunde stressed that she has devised a way to avoid being stereotyped in Nigeria’s movie industry, Nollywood.

Her words, “Nollywood does tend to stereotype actors, often restricting them to specific roles based on their previous works. It could also be as a result of how good an actor plays a role that every other director would want them to bring that character to every project. To avoid being stereotyped, I strive to diversify my roles. My manager, Omotola Slasha, also screens scripts I receive to decide whether I would accept the role or not. I challenge myself with different characters in my head as well, so when I play a character, even if it’s similar to what I had done before, I would apply versatility and avoid being predictable.”

On the highlight of playing the character, Motunde, she said, “The highlight of playing that role has been the opportunity to connect with the audience on a deep and personal level. Bringing Motunde to life allows me to explore various facets of human emotions and experiences, which in turn resonates with the viewers. It is incredibly fulfilling to see how the character I portray can impact and inspire others, so much that when they see me, they tell me about similar scenarios they had been in and how they were able to manage the situation or make it less tense.”
