Nigerian football legend Mutiu Adepoju has spoken about his stay in the Spanish capital Madrid and his how he played with Real Madrid’s second team but couldn’t make it into the first team.
According to him at the time he was with the second team of Real Madrid he had the chances to play with the senior team but because he was a foreigner he couldn’t.
Mutiu revealed that at that time only a total of three foreigners where allowed to play in each team and real Madrid had already gotten that number in the squad, so he was shipped out.
He said;
“I was signed by the second team of the club. Being a young player, I couldn’t have gotten into the first team just like that. As a matter of fact, only three foreigners could play in the team at the same time. After spending two years there, I was supposed to be promoted to the senior team but unfortunately, it couldn’t be because there were already three foreigners on the team. After three years, I was transferred to Racing de Santander. I spent four years there before I was later transferred to Real Sociedad, where I also spent four years. From there, I went to Saudi Arabia and I played with Salamanca”, Mutiu Adepoju said.
