The President, Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria, Iyen Agbonifo, has given an insight to “provocative dressing’’ by actresses while on stage.
Agbonifo told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Wednesday that some actresses put on skimpy clothes to vividly portray the characters they acted.
The GDGN president said that such wears must have been requested for by the script writer and director.
“If a script describes a person as a wild or loose girl, you have to look for dresses that will portray the person as that. Scripts are actually the guide; it is what informs everything we want to do and dictates the kind of costume we use,” she said.
She noted that scripts determined the type of makeup that would soothe a particular character in the movie.
Agbonifo, however, said that any actress uncomfortable with wearing skimpy clothes could discuss it with the movie director and the costume designer, saying, “If you know through the script that you will wear skimpy dress and you are not comfortable with it, you can discuss it with the costume designer. You have a choice to decline to wear those clothes, or maybe, some form of adjustments will be made.”
