For almost one year, insider sources have insisted that actresses now pay producers to get movie roles. According to them, things have turned up side down in the industry as the artistes now pay producers, instead of producers paying for their services. It was disclosed that they not only pay producers, but also register with the production companies and pay for their hotel accommodation bills while on movie locations. Sources say that big production companies that made many actors and actresses what they are today, charge as much as N500, 000 while others collect N200, 000 or N100, 000, depending on the circumstances.
Meanwhile, the story has been confirmed by different individuals who told us that movie production companies are collecting huge sum of money from actresses to project them with their movies.
According to the information gathered, the registration fee ranges from N20, 000, N50, 000 to N100, 000 depending on the production company. To get a role, the actresses cough-out huge sums ranging from N100, 000 to N500, 000, depending on how big the production company is with blockbuster movies.
As gathered, it was alleged that top production companies charge as much as N500, 000, while others charge N200, 000.
A source say that the up and coming actresses are too desperate to appear in movies that they can do anything. “Producers are extorting actresses nowadays because they are very desperate, and gone are the days when they sleep with everything in skirt to give them roles. S o they extort money from them in exchange of movie roles. It is no longer hidden. It is a common thing to see new entrants paying producers huge amount of money, registering with production companies and still pay for their own hotel rooms while on location.”
“You see, there is no rule in movie industry these days. People do anyhow they like. Any actress they cannot sleep with, will have to pay through the nose to get role, afterall they did not invite you to come and act movies. All of us are praying that something be done to change this situation. The truth is that there are talents in Nigeria, and that someone is coming in new to do movies, does not make that person a tout. They should give them an opportunity and not extorting them,” another source says.
“We are calling on the association heads, President of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Madam Ibinabo Fiberesima and President of Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Mr. Zik Zulu Okafor should do something to help the industry, if not we do not know what will happen. There must be opportunities to groom young talents not extorting them. They should not allow cheap and toutish so-called movie producers to ruin the industry,” another source commented anonymously.
