Many music stars and their emerging counterparts, on Saturday, gathered at the Planet One Events Centre, Lagos, to celebrate filmmaker cum actor, Kunle Afolayan, for his contributions to the evolution of the Nigerian movie industry. It was at a programme christened Celebrity Fan Gig, organised by Enzymes Communication and Excite on TV owned by acclaimed television content and reality shows producers, Digital Interactive Media.

Kicking off the series of performances that enlivened the night, was emerging music star, Olamide, of the ‘Eni Duro’ fame, who stirred the audience into a dance frenzy. In quick succession came Kennis Music artistes, Femi Adeyinka and Jaywon; Tony Tetuila, Lord of Ajasa, Magnito, Konga, Art Quake and ID Cabassa. Compere of the night, comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, ensured that the event also measured up in terms of comic outputs.

The honouree, Afolayan, would not be outdone on his day as he also joined the musicians to render their hit songs. Later, a documentary highlighting his episodic career was shown, followed by an interactive session. Reacting to the honour, Afolayan expressed his profound gratitude to the organisers and his teeming fans for coming to celebrate with him. The producer of awards-winning films, Irapada and Figurine said the best decision he has made in his life was to quit his banking job for filmmaking which incidentally, also earned his late father, Ade Love, acclaim.

The Head of Business Development, Enzymes Communication, Bimbo Otubu, while presenting a plaque to Afolayan, describes him as a pride to the Nigerian entertainment industry. Otubu says, “We were not surprised that his name came tops among the celebrities voted to be hosted in the Celebrity Fan Gig. We are happy to be associated with such a talented individual. We would be honouring such celebrities monthly, and we hope that this will also create an opportunity for them to meet and connect with their fans.”
