Patience Ozokwor is a top Nigerian actress popularly referred to as “Mama G” or “The Margaret Thatcher of Nollywood”. She starred in her first movie in 1998, but it was until the release of her second movie ‘Authority’ that she gained proper recognition in Nollywood. She recently won the “Best Supporting Actress” award at the 10th Africa Academy Movie Awards this year for ‘The Proposal’.
1. Patience Ozokwor assumes whatever character she is assigned to the best of her abilities. Whether if it’s a good or bad role, she is always vibrant and able to bring her script to life. Though, I know we definitely get a kick from her wicked roles. Don’t you just love the way her mouth twists to the left? Lol! Do you guys remember “2 Rats”?
2. We admire Mama G’s humanitarian nature. She helps supports children in need and give back to her community. She has three biological children of her own and has adopted five others. She helped to lead a march a few months ago for the school girls that were kidnapped by Boko Haram earlier this year. Patience Ozokwor was recently honored as one of the 100 recipients of Nigeria’s Centenary Award in Nigeria this year for her services.
3. Did you know that Patience is a fashion designer? She had an outfit called Art Queenties where she trained young girls for fashion designing, handcraft and catering. She recently opened a shopping plaza in Enugu earlier this year.
4. Mama G is the perfect name for Patience! She has played the mother role in movies for most of the prominent actors in Nollywood. She jokes around saying that Pete Edochie and Olu Jacobs have refused to let her play their mother.
5. Did you know that Patience Ozokwor is a multi talented woman? She has ventured in various fields ranging from teaching, to broadcasting, to singing and designing, but I think we all stand firm on how phenomenal her acting skills are.
