Benin went agog on Sunday 26th September, 2010 at the Emporium, JBS Estate, GRA Benin as ‘Home in Exile’ a film by Lancelot Imasuen was premiered. The tons of dignitaries and celebrities that showed up on the red carpet added glitz and glamour to the event and made the premiere one that will not be forgotten soon in Nollywood.
In attendance at the premiere were dignitaries such as the Speaker of the Edo state house of assembly Mr. Omokhiogion, Hon. Patrick Osayimwen, Philip Shuwaibu Majority Leader of the Edo State House of assembly, Hon Orobosa Ojo special Advicer to the governor on arts and tourism and so many other politicians and political aspirants. Celebrities in attendance include Enebeli Enebua, Justus Esiri, Fransis Duru, Yemi Black, top Edo state music star Akobe, upcoming star Pamela King and so many others.
‘Home in Exile’ a film that featured Nollywood stars like Desmond Eliot, Justus Esiri, Chiwetalu Agwu, Fransis Duru, Uche Jumbo, and so many more, reveals the inherent selfish nature of man, it talks of how we extol tradition when it favors us and abhor it when it comes against us: Desmond Elliot (Dave)’s fiancée Beverly Naya(Julie) has to marry Desmond Elliot’s father the king (Justus Esiri), a repercussion of her sitting on the king’s stool which is supposed to be an abomination, with this development the prince is up against the king.
Alongside the premiere of Home in Exile, the Arts Heritage Award an initiative of Lancelot Imasuen was given out to seven deserving Nigerians who has supported the growth of art and has also acted as art patrons. Iyime Agbonifo the president of creative designer’s guild of Nigeria and Mr. Victor Ogimoyin are some of those who went home with the bronze cast award.
While yet to be released home in Exile has carted away such awards like best film of the year from Terracota Awards 2010, best film on tourism from Zuma International Film Festival and so many others.
