In the meantime, the occupants of Kalakuta Republic, the home base of late musician and political activist, Fela Kuti in his lifetime may seek for a new abode, if we have to go by the information at our disposal.
The communal compound that housed his family, band members is located on Gbemisola Street, Ikeja Lagos.
Recently, there was a rumour making the round on controversies surrounding the management of the late music hero’s house. It was learnt that the family of the late veteran afro act have turned lackadaisical towards the management of the structure and that it had created room for miscreants to take over the building where Fela lived till he died.
We also gathered from source close to the family that the well being of the structure has been saddled to Fela’s last child, Seun since the demise of Fela but little has been done in terms of supervision of the house. Moreover, the fact that Seun is the last child of the Kuti family, he’s been prevented from taking drastic decisions concerning the building.
However, we gathered authoritatively that the family has been engaging in several way-forward meetings for the past four years. We were told that it has been resolved among the family to rehabilitate Kalakuta Republic, hence the occupants have been asked to evacuate the building as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, it is no more news that the two sons of Fela that took after their father, Femi and Seun are not in good terms. But in a recent chat with Seun, he gave a response that intensifies their grudges. When asked about the kind of relationship that exists between them, Seun said “Femi is very much older than I am. There is no way we can be walking together holding hands. He was born centuries before I was born. So we have different mentality and opinions.
It was gathered that Seun has since moved out of the building.
