Stop posting substandard movies on YouTube, Actress Debbie Shokoya advises colleagues
Nollywood actress, Debbie Shokoya has urged her colleagues to put in their energies in producing standard movies for their YouTube audiences.
The movie star who noted that the habit of creating substandard movies is common amongst the Yoruba Nollywood industry added that there is a growing complaint from audiences.
She said that churning out low-standard movies has led to public disapproval of Yoruba movies.
Shokoya encouraged her colleagues to change the negative report surrounding Yoruba movies and urged them to allow each department within a movie production to perform its assigned role.
According to her, this will improve the quality of films, as crew members are specialized in their respective areas.
“I am tired when I hear people say they don’t watch Yoruba movies, and sadly, I understand why,” she lamented. “Let’s be honest; it’s not their fault. We need to change this narrative.”
Shokoya further called on directors to take their roles more seriously, noting the importance of proper direction in shaping a movie’s quality.
She questioned why some directors fail to correct poorly executed acting or unnecessarily prolonged comedic scenes, urging them to step up their efforts in ensuring better performances and more quality storylines.
“We can do better,” Shokoya concluded.
