Stephanie Coker-Aderinokun shares pre-pregnancy struggle
Nollywood actress, Stephanie Coker-Aderinokun has shared the struggles she went through while trying to conceive, stressing that she was able to survive that period of her life through faith and support from her loved ones.
Speaking on how the experience affected her mental health, the television host said, “I believe one has to seek God when one is on a fertility journey. I managed to get through it with the support of family, friends, and others who had experienced failed cycles. Their support was instrumental in helping me overcome that state of mind.”
According to her, the experience inspired her to work on her latest documentary titled, ‘Where the Heck is my Period’.
She stated that she was inspired by her deeply personal journey with fertility and hormonal issues, aiming to break the silence around these common yet often unspoken challenges faced by many women.
She said, “I haven’t seen many women speak about their fertility and hormonal issues. I wanted to use my platform to show young girls that they are not alone, to share my journey, and to give women strength, because so many of them are going through health issues they can’t talk about.”
Speaking on some of the things she went through during that period, she said, “I have had irregular periods for a long time, which is concerning. The main issue was that I wasn’t ovulating, which is crucial for someone who wants to get pregnant. The uncertainty of not menstruating made me anxious because I never knew when it would happen. I often carried something (sanitary pad) with me just in case.”
Coker-Aderinokun also expressed her desire to expand her family. She said, “Yes, I intend to have another child. I don’t want my child to be an only child.”
