When Steph Nora Okere came into Nollywood, the beautiful and young actress shot to the top with her effortless and skillful interpretations of her roles, winning many loyal fans, but many industry watchers have wondered where she is.

She sat down to answer questions in a recent interview with Vanguard about issues that bothers on the on-going crisis in Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN, and reasons why some actresses remain single in Nollywood.

When asked about her failed marriage to actor and producer, Lanre Falana, she said the marriage did not happen because of the failure on his part to fulfill the mandatory marital requirements on her.

“I was never married but I was involved in a marriage process which got truncated along the line. Marriage begins with paying the woman’s dowry, traditional and white wedding. All these did not take place.

“My family did not support marrying a man who kept one woman in one place and plans keeping another one in another place. I attend Catholic church and the marriage process in Catholic begins with the intended couples tendering a marriage certificate issued by a court to the church. This was the main reason we were in court in the first place,” she said.

She disclosed that the trouble on-going in AGN is based more on the personal interests of the person involved and the money that the government has given to the industry which has been mismanaged by the administration.

“Crisis in AGN is quite embarrassing and disheartening. Actors are supposed to understand human psychology better. Actors serve as mirror to the society but we are finding it difficult to maintain peace among ourselves.

“Things took another turn when artists began to get money from the government and politicians. In a nutshell, AGN crisis began when money was placed over artists’ welfare.”

Also, she revealed why there are many unmarried actresses in the industry.

“I joined the industry when I was 21 and a graduate. Perhaps it did but I did not just notice. It is possible a suitor was somewhere eyeing me but did not show up because of my profession. I was too engrossed in my career that I did not encounter one but there would have been someone like that,” she added.
