Femi Kuti has lost his maternal grandmother. Two years ago, Femi and his sister, Yeni have recently paid a visit to their Granny and celebrated with her, as she marked a new milestone in her life.
The granny is from their mother’s (Remilekun Taylor Ransome Kuti) side. Not much is known about Femi’s maternal grandmother, however his paternal grandmother was Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a highly influential woman in her time who is best known for her activism and also for being the first Nigerian female to drive a car. Femi’s mom is said to be a blend of black American, red Indian and British.
“My Maternal Grandmother , who changed my life by talking sense into me changing my whole attitude positively.Will miss u thanks for the love and care (RIP) u will always be in my heart of hearts.” He said
The Ransome Kuti Family have been noted for its contributions to Nigerian art, religion, education, medicine and politics. They have amongst their bloodline the likes of Israel Oludotun Ransome-Kuti(Clergyman) Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti, Wole Soyinka, Grace Eniola Ransome-Kuti Marrried Samual Ayodele Soyinka.
