It is already five days and the release of Nollywood actress, Nkiru Sylvanus has not yet been secured. On Sunday morning, the talented ‘crying’ actress was abducted in Owerri, Imo State after she left a movie location a day before.
Nkiru, who doubles as the Special Assistant to governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, was recently redeployed to Imo from Lagos where she served as the Special Assistant to the governor on Lagos Affairs. Her kidnappers reportedly asked for a ransom of N100million for her release.
In an open letter to Rochas Okorocha, Igbo Forum in Nollywood headed by Harris Chuma, called on the governor to do everything within his powers to secure the release of the actress. In a statement made available to Nigeriafilms.com, Chuma stressed the need for the government and security operatives to put an end to the ‘illegal trade’ of kidnapping.
The statement is presented below;
“We the members of Igbo Forum in Nollywood, a socio-cultural group charged with the responsibility of projecting and preserving Igbo language and culture; a body concern with the overall welfare of Ndigbo in Nollywood and the Nigerian Entertainment industry at large, here state that the government of Imos State under the able leadership of Owelle Rochas Okorocha should be more proactive in securing the release of Nkiru Sylvanus, a Nollywood actress and face of Ndigbo in Nollywood.
“We are not comfortable with the incessant kidnapping of Nollywood stars in the South-East Nigeria. We urge the security operatives in the region to work harder and arrest this deadly scourge, better still bring an end to this illegal trade.
“We implore his Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the security operatives in Imo State to quickly unravel the mystery behind thee abduction of Nkiru Sylvanus in Imo State and deploy every means to quickly secure the release of Nkiru Sylvanus.
“Kindly do the needful and save Nkiru Sylvanus.
Chief Harris Chuma (Ogene Ndigbo)
