Veteran Nollywood actor, Anayo Modestus Onyekwere aka Kanayo O. Kanayo has dispelled rumours that he is dead. In a video posted on his social media account, Kanayo placed a curse on the person who, he said, published an obituary, claiming that he is dead.
He said “I don’t know what people gain by carrying rumours, printing out (their) obituary. I don’t know what will make someone tag me on such posts.
“Do most people think that Nollywood actors and entertainers don’t have families? What kind of life do they think we live?
“Someone wakes up, compiles 4,5 pictures and write RIP. You will not live past the next 7 days, You have got the wrong guy. My life has never been in anybody’s hands”.
“I want to thank families and friends who have called me since morning. I’m hale and hearty, not even having fever. Thank you very much.
“Whoever have compiled these pictures, publish (their) obituary, you have just 7 days. Thanks for your kindness” he added.
Anayo Modestus Onyekwere popularly known as Kanayo O. Kanayo, born March 1, 1962 in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian actor and lawyer. In 2006 he won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the movie “Family Battle”.
Kanayo In 1992 made his debut movie appearance in the film Living in Bondage. Kanayo has starred in over 100 films. He was nominated in 2008 for African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in the movie “Across the Niger”. His most recent movies are Up North and Living in Bondage: Breaking Free.
Kanayo hails from Mbaise in Imo State. He is the second son and third out of five children. His family bears the family name ‘Onyekwere’. He is a divorcee and has four children, two girls and two boys respectively.
In 2011, his mother died. During the burial ceremony, A-list Nollywood actors came to pay their last respects.
Later that year, he contested for the chair of the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE of Imo State under the political party APGA but didn’t win. He then proceeded to try again in 2019 but lost to Mr Martins Emeka Chinedu who is also his Kinsman.
He is not a social media persona as he said in one of his interviews.
He has featured in various Nollywood blockbuster movies which includes Lion Heart and Professor JOHNBULL where he portrayed the character of an intelligent and achieved educated man.
He is currently a United Nations ambassador and bears the title of MFR.[failed verification]
Kanayo was among various Nigerians honored by the government in 2014 during the centenary celebration.
He is a graduate of Law from the University of Abuja in the year 2018. He also finished his Law School from the Abuja Law School located at Bwari, Abuja in the year 2020.
