Nigerian migrant was lynched by a right-wing football fan in a central Italian town, officials reported on Wednesday.
The 36 years old Emmanuel Chidi was said to be walking along with his girlfriend in the small town of Paolo Calcinaro on Tuesday when they were attacked by racist who were supporters of a local football club.
This led to a heated argument and Chidi was brutalized, sustaining great head injury. He was rushed to the hospital where he passed on.
Speaking about the incident was the Mayor of the town, who said, “As mayor of a town that is welcoming and open to integration, I feel I’m living in a nightmare,”
It was gathered that Chidi had only lived in the area for eight months and was lodged in a shelter owned by Catholic Charity Caritas.
His girlfriend had also lost her baby after a very tedious Mediterranean crossing.
A total of 70,930 people moved to Italy between January and June.
