The battle for who controls the soul of Arigidi Akoko town in Ondo State between two of her illustrious sons, Prophet TB.Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nation(scoan) and Odua Peoples Congress(OPC) leader,Otunba Gani Adams,is getting messier by the day.
Recall that three years ago, Prophet TB.Joshua and Otunba Gani Adams fought themselves to a standstill over the choice of a new Zaki (Oba) of Arigidi Akoko where they both hail from. Then,Prohet T.B. Joshua had supported Prince Tunde Olanipekun for the throne with OPC leader Gani Adams rooting for Prince Yisa Olanipekun who eventually was selected by the kingmakers. With the heavy support of then government of ex-Gov.,Olusegun Agagu,Prince Yisa Olanipekun was enthroned the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko in 2008.
Since then however, the battle of the two super big boys have moved to the law court as T.B Joshua’s preferred candidate Prince Tunde took his case to court, challenging the emergence of Prince Yisa as the Zaki.
The latest now, is that the T.B Joshua side won big last week as an Akure High Court on Tuesday dethroned Oba Yisa Olanipekun, the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko, and forbade him from addressing himself as the monarch of the agrarian community.
The judge, Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi,in his ruling said the defendants breached court injunction by going with the installation of Oba Olanipekun as the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko.
Kumuyi in his ruling said,” As long as it subsisted whether null or not, those affected thereby are bound to obey a court order. The court will not hesitate to set aside the selection of the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko and declare the stool vacant. He said that all the defendants had violated court injunction by going ahead with the installation of Oba Yisa Olanipekun as the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko in year 2008.
The monarch we hear is set to appeal the case at the Court of Appeal.
