Her son, Olatunji, said the actress died on Friday night around 10pm. Rachel Oniga was born 23rd May 1957 in Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
Her acting career began in 1993, shortly after she secured a divorce from her husband whom she said was taken from her by “a strange woman” who bewitched him.
After a brief stint with Ascoline Nigeria Limited, a Dutch Consultant Company, she embraced acting.
Her first movie titled, “Onome,” brought her to limelight in the English genre, followed by her debut Yoruba movie “Owo Blow”
She would later become a regular feature on the “Super Story” television series with the outfit that gave her the first break, Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP).
Lately, she acted in the highly popular movie, the “Wedding Party,” that featured Banky W and his wife, Adesua Etomi.
In the span of her career, which was about 27 years, the multiple award-winning actress featured in movies like The Wedding Party, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, 30 Days in Atlanta, Sango, Out of Bounds, Power of Sin, among others.
In recognition of her contribution to Nigerian theatre, she was gifted an apartment in Ikorodu by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
She married a Yoruba man, but the marriage collapsed after she claimed another woman bewitched her husband and father of her children.
In an interview, she noted that she stopped working when she got married and started having children. Unfortunately, her marriage did not last.
So, after her separation from the father of her kids, she took up acting again.
She revealed in the interview that one of her regrets in life was that she did not fight for her marriage.
