Trybson, the Stingomania hip hop sensation, who acted Dagrin in Ghetto Dreamz, a biopic on the late rapper, Dagrin, which is set for premiere on April 22, 2011, speaks on his relationship with the late rapper and his role in the movie. Excerpts…
According to Daniel Adenimokan, director of the movie, Trybson got the role because of his peculiar resemblance to the character. “Dagrin means so much to me, he was my friend before he died and we were both from the hood before he got his record deal. Playing the role of Dagrin goes beyond just reciting lines and acting in front of the camera, you need to be really into the character to understand how to effectively deliver your lines. I am usually on my toes to deliver my best,” Trybson says.
Asked to paint a picture of Ghetto Dreams as the lead character, he said, “Dagrin lived the life of a young rapper, who was just chasing his dreams. He also had to go through so much in his bid to become what he wanted to be. His background was not really different from that of most youths in the ghetto, who battle with so many odds. Fitting into his role is not that hard because the kind of life he lived was not different from mine.”
Ghetto Dreamz chronicles the life and times of Dagrin. It features the early life of the rapper, his rise to fame and circumstances that surround his death. Other than Trybson, Ghetto Dreamz features other Nollywood stars such as Doris Simeon, Rachel Oniga, Pa Kasumu, Kenny Saint-Brown, Jaywon and a fast-rising Oyindamola Odesola, among others.
Producer of the movie, Ope Banwo said, “We have no doubt the movie will do well in the cinema, as Dagrin is loved by all and a lot of his fans still miss him. The report we are getting shows a lot of people are looking forward to the movie’s premiere and arrival in the cinema and I can assure them that they would not be disappointed.”
