The funeral rites of ex-Nigerian national team captain and coach, late Stephen Okechukwu Keshi on Thursday commenced at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Benin, the Edo State capital.
The funeral ceremony were attended by family members, top members of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, former internationals among others.
The programme of the event started with a novelty match which would be played in the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.It would be recalled that the ex-captain and coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria
Keshi suddenly died in Benin on June 8, after he was said to have complained of pain in his legs.
His remains was moved to Asaba, the Delta State capital, after the church service on Thursday, from 1:15pm.
His body would be laid in state at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba with a service of songs which will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Illah, Delta state by 6:00pm same day.
On Friday, the body is expected to depart Asaba to his home town, Illah by 7am. There will however be a short stop-over at the Ogbelani Palace for traditional rites as a palace chief by 8:00am, followed by lying-in-state at his family home, Ukpologwu Quarters, Illah, from 8:30am.
