It was not surprising that the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites – venue of the MTN Project Fame Opening concert on Sunday, October 2, 2011 was filled to its capacity, leaving scores of people standing and many more declined entry for the sakes of suffocation. Everybody apparently came to watch Brandy perform live on the Nigerian soil, for the first time.
The main concert did not kick-start until the wee hours of the night owning to the final screening and live recording of the Project Fame season 4 show but guests patiently stuck to their seats – waiting for the Brandy moment. Although many seemed tired and pissed at the delayed process, Brandy’s appearance on the stage changed it all.
The international award winning sensational singer brought the high expectations and the excitement back; and intoxicated the audience with her first rendition. In no time, both the young and old guests at the show lost decorum. Some trooped to the forefront of the stage while others stood on their seats – all in the name of getting a good glimpse of Brandy. She literally got the over 5,000 guests eating from her palm
Revered US R&B artiste Joe was a perfect replacement for rapper The Game (who was absent for undisclosed reasons), as he kept the fun high with his performance which came after Brandy’s.
While Pop star Dbanj who was the third major headliner unfortunately put up a disappointing performance. Many anticipated more than what the Mo’Hits Vice President brought. He was too busy raining accolades on his brand, engaging in pointless small-talk and complimenting his sexuality per time, in place of an enigmatic performance the audience had envisaged.
However, despite the off-and-on technical hitch of the night and Dbanj’s outright flop, Brandy’s electrifying performance, and Joe’s back-to-back hits’ rendition made it all up.The audience, including celebrities went nuts while Brandy’s performance lasted.
Brandy who flew back to the US on Monday October 3, 2011 took to her Twitter account to appreciate her Nigerian fans; “Just landed in the States! Nigerian love will keep me smiling forever! Thank you to all the fans who supported the MTN event…Love you all!” Brandy tweeted from her official handle @4everbrandy shortly after arriving the US on Tuesday.
