Former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, has been married for decades to Pastor Nedu Ezekwesili of the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG). She is seen as a role model by many.
It was then not surprising to many when she gave marriage tips to young Nigerians via her Twitter handle yesterday. In her words, “Sometimes, when I read tweets of some young ones on twitter, I mutter to myself, “where did this very old thought come from in a young man”. I cooked Ofe Nsala & Coconut-Oil Stew 4 my family Christmas meal. I also wrote a Policy Note for the Leader of an African country. #SoWhat?
“A woman can do multiple tasks in Life. She can be a professional, a daughter, a sibling, a wife, a mom. Stop those artificial dichotomies. Don’t allow your mind to construct artificial dichotomies & then enter into marriage. A true COUPLE can get ANYTHING THEY WANT DONE, DONE. It is only an overgrown baby of a man that does not lift a finger &SUPPORT his wife to bc a Composite Achiever. Grow up, Baby Boys.Grow up.
“Some of you young men tweet here as if you are looking for a 21st century maid as a wife. You better not get married yet. Grow up 1st. Some of you young married men carry on as if you did your wife a favor getting married. Stop it. Combine forces&get things done in the home. As a woman, you will not always get it right balancing the multiple tasks but with the RIGHT mindset& a REAL man (no baby boy) you’ll be ok.
“The most foolish decision you’ll ever make in life is to marry a person you can comfortably watch struggling and not lift a hand to support. So, my dear young ones believe me when I say that your marriage decision can make or mar you. Don’t make it lightly. Deep calls unto Deep.”
