Nigerian telecommunication giant 9mobile has been dragged to court by Nigerian comedian and singer Maleke. 9mobile was before now known as Etisalat mobile the name was changed in 2017.
Maleke may have been forgotten about by many Nigerian but Maleke is back and this time he is suing the telecommunication for inappropriate exploitation of his intellectual work.
Maleke have been missing for sometimes now has his name in the music and comedy sector has been dying out.
According to LIB, the Nigerian Musician and comedian appeared before the Federal High Court, Ikoyi in the case that was presided over by Hon Justice Faji.
He is reportedly suing telecommunication giant, 9mobile, to the tune of N500 million.
In the suit, 9mobile is facing allegations of intellectual property theft and commercial exploitation of said stolen intellectual property.
According to the reports, the suit was instituted against 9mobile for the unauthorized copying, theft, sale and continuous resale of sixteen of Mr Maleke’s tracks as ring tunes on its website for a period of seven years.
Speaking in court, the complainant lamented the financial loss he has suffered over the years “due to the brazen display of recklessness by the telecommunications giant.”
He further lamented the fact that all attempts at dialogue with 9mobile’s parent company have been futile hence the need to resort to the law solution. The case has been adjourned until a later date for further hearing
