APA Abuja (Nigeria) The Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom is to partner with Nollywood (Nigerian film actors guild) on the endorsement of Nigerian films, Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to the UK, Dozie Nwanna, said on Wednesday according to reports monitored in Abuja.

Dozie Nwanna made the promise when he received Aliu Nuhu, a popular Nigerian actor who was on a courtesy call to the mission in London.

“The Mission will be willing to introduce and endorse bona fide Nigerian actors and actresses to potential sponsors,” Nwanna said.

The High Commissioner recalled the Mission’s endorsement of a film, “AFREEKA”, co-produced by Medina Ajikawo, Jude Idada and Chibuzo Okoye of Global 7, due to premier in 2011.

Nwanna, who described Nollywood actors and actresses as Nigeria’s “real ambassadors”, said more than half of the negative image about the country was being rebranded by films which had made Nigeria popular and proud.

He said the film industry was becoming a major revenue earner and employer for the country.

Nwanna commended Nuhu on his achievements, including his award-winning film “SITANDA”, and noted that through his works, young people would be inspired and challenged to seek excellence and greater achievements in their chosen fields.

Earlier, Nuhu had said that Nollywood had brought national unity, noting that “aside from football, Nollywood is bringing us together in unity.’’
