As Nigeria clocks 53 yesterday, every sectors of the economy also celebrated. The entertainment industry was not left out as well as entertainment stakeholders called for a stronger focus on the development of the industry and also the tourism sector.
The entertainment industry has been a major contributor to the economic development of the nation. The major problems faced by the entertainment industry are piracy, copyright infringements and insufficient grants to grow the industry.
A popular comedian, AY (Ayo Makun) recently urged the Federal Government to establish a separate Ministry for the entertainment industry. “The entertainment industry is too big to be under the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism,” he had said few weeks ago.
“Nollywood alone is a big industry and you also have to consider other arms of entertainment like music, comedy and others,” he added.
MC Abbey, speaking to Nigeriafilms, says the industry should be a voice of change and should also project much more strength of our great nation than the ills.
In coming years, Nigerians hope for the better as Nigeria grows older.
