Some aggrieved Nigerian artistes are planning to shun ‘The Headies’ and ‘Rhythm Unplugged’. The decision to carry out this action is to protest the ban placed on them by some radio and television stations in Nigeria.
There is presently an ongoing face-off between members of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (IBAN).
COSON had challenged some television and radio stations in the country to pay royalties to its members, but BON and IBAN reacted by banning the airplay of songs belonging to members of COSON.
This has now forced some artiste to threaten to boycott the two shows. They threatened not to perform at ‘The Headies’ and Rhythm Unplugged’, both holding in December. The two shows rank among the biggest entertainment shows in Nigeria.
