IN preparation for the celebration of Nigeria’s independence at 50, the popular Motherlan’ in Opebi, Lagos, will come alive next Friday as Lagbaja will be jamming live to thrill his fans to a night of fun and music. While most people have categorised Lagbaja’s kind of music as afrobeat, highlife and so on, the masked one has officially named his genre of music, Africano. This, he said, was borne out of his style, composition, dance steps, music environment, stage design and so on which he described as having the African cultural heritage effects.
Bursting onto the scene many years ago, Lagbaja has many albums to his credit.
His current works, Paradise and Sharp Sharp with videos Bling Bling Panda, Did I, Sobolation etc, are enjoying massive air play in the country and beyond.
Though his brand of music is categorised by many as afrobeat, highlife, afrojazz, crossover etc, Lagbaja insisted that none of these was appropriate, saying, “No one could deny the impact our music had with its use of traditional African drums and percussions. Now, I christened that drum driven sound Africano, and wish to invite lovers of music to come on board for an exciting journey come Friday, September 24, and every last Friday of the month.’
