No sooner had the picture of Soundcity presenter, Derenle Edun and Nollywood’s Omoni Oboli, in a warm embrace hit the public space had tongues started wagging that the two were an item. The recent gist among talebearers is that the very married Omoni and the studded one have more than a passing interest in each other.
The speculation is further fuelled by the fact that Denrele’s sexuality has been a subject of controversy. He is either labelled gay or someone who does not pick on his size, as he was once reported to be dating ‘porn’ again nudist, Cossy Orjiakor.
Interestingly, Omoni and Derenle were spotted at two different parties within few days during the last holidays.
The picture that got people talking was taken at actress Rukky Sanda’s New Year party in Lagos. The duo was also at Uche Jombo’s birthday party, although our reporter could not confirm if they were together at any point.
Not one to rely on rumour, Saturday Independent contacted Denrele on phone on Tuesday to speak on his relationship with Omoni. The usually ‘un-shock-able’ prankster was thrown back and retorted: “They have come again ooh÷where did you hear that from? I don’t know anything about what you are saying ooh!
“Omoni Oboli is just a working colleague and we met when I worked with her team during the premiere of her flick, The Rivals. I am a friend of Omoni’s husband and nothing can be going on between us than just being good friends. You better don’t let Omoni hear this, or she will kill you. As I said, she’s just a colleague, a wonderful woman and happily married too.”
Omoni, who recently returned to active acting after she was sent on a compulsory leave by childbirth, is one of the most beautiful and sultry head turners in the Nigerian movie industry. She swears by her husband who has supported her every move in Nollywood.
While she may be playing catch up with some of her peers who did not have to leave the scene for any family assignment, Mrs. Oboli can still boast of many films under her belt. They include Yahoo Millionaire, War Against Women, Fatal Imagination, Unfinished Business and The Rivals, which she co-produced with Blessing Effiom.
Derenle, who won the Best TV Presenter prize at the last Dynamix Youth Award, is one of the most popular VJs in the country. He has since gone from being that cute little boy at Hoares Memorial Church, Yaba to the Next Weird thing after Charly Boy.
