In the 90s, artistes from Ajegunle area of Lagos State had a field day in the Nigerian music industry.
Ajegunle is a popular slum in Lagos and it produced top musicians like Daddy Shokey, Daddy Fresh, Danfo Drivers, Mavelous Benji, Nico Gravity and others who ruled the game some years ago especially with their dance steps.
But today, most of these artistes are not on top of the game any longer like in the past though they still earn their respect.
One the stars of yesteryear, Daddy Fresh, disclosed recently that his exit from the ghetto caused the decline in the quality of songs from the region.
He told New Telegraph that, “I am a crossover artiste. If you listen to my album, you would find out that I don’t play a pattern of music; it is the combination of different genres of music including RnB, Afro, fuji and gospel.
“But some of my colleagues came out with just one style and they failed to realise that music changes. I believe that my exit from Ajegunle contributed to the decline too because I was up and doing. Musicians were always coming to me and I gave them suggestions, but since I left, only few of them still keep it real.”
