Nigerian sprinter, Oluwatobiloba Amusa, made history as she became the first Nigerian to win a sprint hurdles title at the Commonwealth Games. She broke the record today at the Carrara stadium in Gold Coast, Australia.

Oluwatobiloba Amusa ran 12.68 seconds to win the race making her Nigeria’s first gold medallist in track and field at the ongoing games.

Here are some tips you may not have known about her;

Oluwatobiloba Ayomide Amusan was born on April 23, 1997, she is a Nigerian sprinter.

She claimed gold in the 100 meters hurdles event at the 2015 African Junior Athletics Championships in Addis Ababa.

In 2015, while making her All-Africa Games debut, she won gold in the 100 meters hurdles event at the 2015 All-Africa Games. Her teammate, Lindsay Lindley was third. She was also a silver medalist at the 2013 African Youth Championships in Warri.

She was runner-up at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100 m hurdles running a windy 12.79 s.

Amusan also competed at the 2016 World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz. Despite running her second fastest time ever, she placed fifth in the final.

She eclipsed Kim Turner’s 100mH UTEP record in 2016, with a 2016 best of 12.83 s.

She has bettered her own high school record in the 100mH finishing the race at the UTEP Springtime Invitational in 12.63 s.

She won the Gold medal at the 100 meters hurdles event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
