According to a report by The Nation, a 41-year-old man identified as Matthew Atewe has been arraigned before an Evboriaria Magistrate Court for defrauding his fiancée, Gladys Imagbenikaro, of N4,285,000.
Atewe reportedly met with Gladys parents and declared his intention to marry her. But he got married to another woman after performing the introduction ceremony with Gladys.
The younger brother to the woman, Kenneth Imagbenikaro, while testifying at the resumed hearing of the trial, said Atewe came to their house with the false intention of marrying his sister.
He said it was the trust the family and his sister had in the man that made her send goods worth €12,000 or N3,000,000 to him to help her sell.
He said his sister sent another N1,285,000 to Atewe to be deposited in her account.
According to Kenneth, Gladys sent him to retrieve the goods and cash from Atewe after she noticed that he was no longer truthful to her.
He said the man also stopped visiting their family house.
“Due to the trust my sister had in him, she sent him goods worth €12,000 which is equivalent of N3m. My sister also sent N1,285,000 to him to put in her account,” he added.
Magistrate S.A Ugah adjourned hearing of the case till August 16.
