A 36 year-old man, Omotunde Ademodi, was on Thursday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State for allegedly pretending to be a fortune-teller.

The accused was charged on one count bordering on fraud.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi earlier told the court that that Ademoji committed the crime on March 22.

The Prosecutor further explained that the accused attempted to defraud one Emmanuel Nasiri of N1.9 million through fortune telling.

Orogbemi also said that the accused and two others, now at large, carried out the crime in an uncompleted building in Ayeka, Okitipupa by acting under the pretence of being a fortune teller.

The said Ademodi had no fixed address and no visible means of livelihood.

He said the offence was contrary to Section 424, Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge leveled against him.

However, Magistrate of the court, Banji Ayeomoni, granted the accused bail in the sum N50, 000 and a surety in like sum, adding that the surety must present one year tax clearance.

The matter was adjourned till April 14 for further hearing.
