The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris Kpotum has been implored by Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led PDP caretaker committee to apprehend and prosecute Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and his candidate for Edo State governorship election, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, for alleged contempt.
Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the Spokesman of the Makarfi-led committee made the request in a statement yesterday following the issuance of Certificate of return given to Iduoriyekemwen by Sheriff as PDP candidate for the election in Edo State.
“The PDP condemned in strong terms, the attitude of Ali Sheriff in recent times and urged security agencies to live up to their responsibilities before he bringsthe judiciary to ridicule. This is not the first time he is disobeying court judgment or order.
“Sheriff has become an authority in the country with flagrant disobedience of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act and the PDP Constitution without being arrested or detained by security agencies. Is he above the law if we may ask?”
He stated that the Judgment of Justice Abdullah Mohammed Liman on July 4 was highly placed above every other , ex-parte orders or interlocutory injunctions procured by Sheriff “and his co-travelers.”
In his words, “Sheriff’s reliance on Justice Okon Abang’s ruling of Thursday, June 30, 2016, is an attempt to confuse unsuspecting members of the public.”
Mr. Inuwa Bwala, Sheriff’s spokesman, who spoke on the issue said, “Makarfi is being desperately insensible, knowing that he should be the one to go to jail for contempt of court. The Port Harcourt judgement is like any of the three judgements Sheriff has. A court of competent jurisdiction recognizes Sheriff as the only lawful leadership to conduct primaries and submit the candidate for the election.”
