Ghanaian movie stars who were nominated for this year’s 6th African Movie Academy Awards have made Ghana proud at the main event which came off on Saturday April 10, 2010 at Yenogoa, the capital of Bayelsa State in Nigeria.

Pretty Ghanaian actress, Jackie Appiah Agyemang has been crowned the best actress in Africa for her lead role in “Perfect Picture”. Jackie was nominated in the category ‘Best performance by an actress in a leading role’ alongside, Lydia Forson and Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku in the same movie and Stephanie Okereke (Nnenda), Akofa Edjeani Asiedu (I sing of a well), Flora Suya (Season of a life) and Bimbo Akintola (Freedom in Chains).

Another star who also flow the flag of Ghana high at the year’s AMAAs was ‘bad boy’ Mr. Adjetey Anang popularly known as ‘Pusher’. He won the ‘Best Performance by an actor in a supporting role’ for his unique performance in ‘Perfect Picture’ produced by Shirley Frimpong Manso. He was nominated in the same category with Doris Sakitey(A sting in a Tale), Funlola Aoifeyebi-Raimi (Figurine), Tapiwa Gwaza (Seasons of a life), Yvonne Nelson (Heart of Men).

Pregnant Ghanaian movie producer and director Shirley Frimpong Manso won the best director of the year for the African Movie Academy Awards with her movie ‘The Perfect Picture’.

She was nominated in the same category with Leila Jewel Djansi (I sing of a well), Shemu Joyah (Seasons of a life), Jude Idada and Lucky Ejim (The Tenant) and Kunle Afolayan the director of Figurine which swept away five awards. Her other movie ‘A Sting in a Tale’ also won her the ‘Best Original Sound Track Award’.

Controversial Ghanaian epic movie “I sing of a well” directed by Leila Djansi, which had 11 nominations carried home two awards in the categories; ‘AMAA Achievement in Sound’ and ‘AMAA Achievemnet in Costume’.
