I’m a proud YouTube star —Wumi Toriola
Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola, has stated that she is proud to be a YouTube star.
Recall that she came under criticisms for always celebrating her YouTube success while some of her colleagues are winning big as box office actors.
Reacting, the actress said her effort cannot be dismissed by anyone.
She revealed that she was called a “YouTube star” by someone attempting to diminish her accomplishments.
However, her resilient spirit led her to wear the title with pride. She pointed out that many of her colleagues have yet to master the YouTube platform and are still striving to make their mark in the box office world.
Toriola questioned whether some of her critics had established their own identities before attempting to rebrand themselves.
She advised them to focus on their own paths rather than chasing unattainable dreams, using a popular Yoruba saying to emphasise her point: “ile o gba, ona o gba,” which translates to “someone being beyond reproach or redemption,” suggesting there is room for everyone to succeed.
Toriola encouraged her critics to “keep playing” while she continues to forge her own path. She cautioned her followers to be wary of comments from fake pages that aim to undermine genuine efforts, highlighting the prevalence of negativity and jealousy within the industry.
Toriola wrote, “So someone called me a ‘YouTube star,’ and my stubborn me took it in with so much pride.
“Some of you have not even conquered YouTube and are still floating in the box office world. Yorubas will say ‘ile o gba, ona o gba.’ Dey play ooooooo. Your colleagues don even know you first before you dey brand wetin I nor know. Sha dey play. Nor run your race; dey find Bollywood face. If you see fake pages under the comment, na them. Sitting in a corner, rubbishing people’s effort.”
