The Glo/ Confederation of African Football (CAF) award gala night comes up on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria.
The sad news is that Nigerian trio Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa missing out on the list of nominees for the 2016 African Player of the Year.
The top five players are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Islam Slimani, Mohamed Salah, Saido Mane and Riyad Mahrez are those on the list.
Borussia Dortmund and Gabon striker Aubameyang is the current holder of the award and one of the favourites for this year’s gong after a blistering start to the Bundesliga campaign. Leicester City and Algeria winger Mahrez, one of two Africans on the ballon d’Or shortlist alongside Aubameyang, also has a big chance of adding to his PFA award after guiding the Foxes to a phenomenal Premier League title in 2016.
