President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Ikechukwu Anyene, has announced the death of Okorie, a Nigerian trader who was killed in Potchefstroom, North West Province of South Africa.
He said that the decease, an indigene of Agwu in Enugu State was shot by unknown assailants. Some Nigerians took to protest against the killing. The police authority arrested 20 of them for causing public violence.
The arrested victims were released after investigation has been concluded while 9 others got a free bail.
In his words “Nigeria Union is satisfied with investigations done so far by the South African police.
“Our people and government are not happy with the way cases involving Nigerians in South Africa are being handled, vis-a-vis the high success rate of prosecution of crime in South Africa.
“We told Nigerians resident in the province to remain law abiding and allow the police to carry out a thorough investigation of the incident,” Anyene said.
An official report has been filed to the South African Police Department and other government agencies.
