Today happens to be the 60th birthday of one of the most respected and loved Fuji Singer, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate or Kwam 1.
The singer who had declared he wasn’t doing anything elaborate to celebrate his big day because he would want it to be simple which influenced his idea to celebrate in hajj.
He even rejected an elaborate celebration by a group of fans who happens to be renowned lagos big boys and opted for a simple celebration.
The singer revealed in a recent interview few things about his mentor whom he loved so much and that is late, Alhaji Sikiru Barister.
According to him, they shared a room within the first 10 years of his journey into the industry and he read him like a book being studied for exams.
In his words: “I started playing with Ajisari groups since I was six years old. The first 10 years, I was an apprentice, including with my mentor, Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. We were sharing one room then. I used to sleep in a room with him. I read Barrister like a book, like one studying for an examination.”
It’s no wonder why he was regarded as the closest person to Barrister who is considered as the originator of Fuji Music, before his demise.
