Just a year after he was criticised for cancelling his Kampala, Uganda concert, the Nigerian singer returned to the East African country for a concert and was received like the true hero he is.
From the clips making the rounds on social media, the Nigerian singer was barely allowed to set foot on the land before fans, including journalists, mobbed him with questions and praises, with many of them following him into the streets to chant his name. my
On social media, fanpages and reputable media houses labeled him the ‘Pearl of Africa’, while his Ugandan fans admitted that they have forgiven him for canceling on them a year ago.
Shortly after he arrived, the Come Closer singer had a short press conference with the journalists in the country, where he responded to questions ranging from his career, to the international award shows which often award African artists backstage.
“I don’t take any nonsense that’s trying to look down on Africa or African entertainment.
So, if you are not going to give us same love you show your international artists– ,if you are not going to show us same love on the main stage, then don’t show us love at all.
We don’t want it. We have our people and we are contented with our own people,” said Wizkid who revealed that that is why he doesn’t go for the international award shows.
This statement finally explains why he is never seen attending BET Award shows which is famous for awarding African acts backstage, before the main event.
