Hassan Olupitan, until his death, is a member of the Presidential Task Force on Customs Reform.
The incident occurred last Monday, in the evening when traffic along Ikorodu road was very tense. It was around Fadeyi Area.
Hassan Olupitan was on his way from the Island to his abode in Opebi when he was accosted by some soldiers coming from the Island baring sirens. In a bid to negotiate out of the way for the siren baring vehicle in gridlock traffic, the soldiers alighted and accosted him roughly, man-handled him out of his car and in the process broke the window on the drivers side of his car.
An eye-witness account said they then proceeded to rain blows and kicks on him with their boots and gun butts. In d process, he was hit on the head with the butt of the gun which led to hemorrhage and internal bleeding.
Under this severe attack, he was saved by a passing colonel who identified himself and put an end to the injustice being meted out. The Colonel took all the parties to the Army Barrack at Maryland and personally took Hassan Olupitan to LASUTH where they were turned away for lack of bed space.
However, by the time they were able to make it to another hospital, he was confirmed dead.
As you are reading this, the family of the deceased are said to host a press conference that will expose the deeds of the people who killed their benefactor.
