Popular Nigerian singer, Stanley Omah Didia, aka Omah Lay, has shared how his experience in Uganda prison shaped his life and career.

In December 2020, the government of Uganda arrested and prosecuted the Afrobeats star and his female colleague, Tems, for making an appearance at a concert held in the country at Speke Resort, Kampala despite COVID-19 social distancing regulations.

After the duo spent three days in jail amidst an uproar in Nigeria, the Ugandan Court granted them bail.

Speaking in a recent interview, the singer disclosed that the jail experience left a positive impact on him, sharing thy since then, his love for freedom increased, and he expressed it in every one of his songs.

“After being in that cell for three days, I just love my freedom so much now that I fight for it with every record… I don’t want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but that shifted my perspective about freedom,” the ‘Soso’ crooner said.
