The Governor of Katsina state Aminu Masari has revealed that the ongoing verification of the Local Government staff and primary school teachers in the State focuses on curbing corruption in the civil service.
He said this on Thursday during the visit of the Emir of Katsina who came to pay him Sallah homage at the government house.
Masari said,‘’The ongoing screening of local government staff is done in good faith, we want to have genuine number of staff on the councils’ payrolls.”
The councils’ Federation Account allocation has gone down in the past five months, now the state government supports the 34 councils with over N1.2 billion, just to settle their salaries.
‘’During the sample screening in nine councils, we discovered that some prominent people placed their wives and children in the payrolls, which is unfortunate”, he stated.
The governor furthered that some the people who have the opportunity to handle the financial resources mismanaged the monthly resources generated by the council.
He stated the readiness of the government to pay May salaries immediately after the screening next week.
