THIS week has been eventful in the on-going Guilder Ultimate Search Celebrities Showdown. Much like a big exit week the programme saw the back of Nollywood big star three-time host of the (real) Guilder Ultimate Search, Bob Manuel Udokwu. He was evicted on Sunday night.
Until he was evicted, Udokwu was among the remaining 9 contestants – Weird MC, Obesere, Dare Art Alade, Princess, Chioma Chukwurah, Muma G, Daddy Showkey, Emeka Ike and him – of the original 10 that began the search for a lost treasure in the maiden edition the celebrities edition of the contest now going on at La Campagne Tropicana in Lekki, Victoria Island, Lagos. Earlier the actress, Funke Akindele, had been evicted.
The African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2009, Best Actress was shown the way out after her poor performance during a task for the day. All of the contestants were instructed to stand on a raised narrow platform, where they remained in the same position for about two hours, as the anchor of the show, Genevieve Nnaji drilled them by asking them to each stand on one leg. Unable to bear the drill, Akindele placed her suspended leg on the platform against the task master’s directive. That act earned her an eviction notice.
Rap music star, Adesola Adesimbo Idowu (aka Weird MC), would have been evicted after Akindele but for her cumulative performance in ealier tasks. She luckily escaped eviction because of the immunity she had from penultimate week.
For Udokwu, it seemed a familiar terrain having hosted previous editions of the main Guilder Ultimate Search. With the experience, many viewers expected he would scale the tasks. Relatively, he did but a fix-the-bits puzzle caught him napping. “Everybody has his bad day. It was just my odd day,” he told the Captain, Nnaji when she asked him of his opinion upon coming last on Sunday’s puzzle task. But that flaw was enough to let the Captain send him out of camp.
With his eviction the stakes and tasks getting stronger, and time ticking the heat is on for the remaining contestants as they struggle to remain in the camp and subsequently find the lost treasure.
