WHAT started like a vision last year has turned out to be a mission for Bamidele Ariyo’s Laurel size company, the organizer of Great Women Icon Award, the yearly celebration of women of honours.
“Women leadership capacity in all sectors has left a vacuum that requires dynamic approach either by Government or individual.
This is the reason why we are trying to encourage those women, who through their chosen field has provoke change and colour irrespective of our nation’s economic meltdown,” says Ariyo.
Speaking further on the preparation for this year’s edition of Great Women Awards scheduled for June 21, 2011 at the prestigious Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. Mr. Ariyo revealed that facts, images and figure of some of the achievements of the few great women, who will be honoured next month, would be put together for impressive celebration in Voice of Outstanding Women Archive, an official publications of Great Women Awards. “This is for posterity sake, as many great women have gone without being recognized for their excellent leadership roles in the society. This publication will be unveiled in a colourful presentation at the event,” he says.
Among the categories in which the organizing committee are working round the clock to shortlist names of great women, who deserved to be honoured include: First Lady of the year, Legend of our time, Great woman in the banking sector, Businesswoman of the year, Fashion Icon, Role Model, Politician of the year, Special recognition award, Great Entrepreneur, Fashion Designer of the year and host of others.
