Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva has thrown his weight behind the 2010 edition of Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) scheduled for April 2010 in Bayelsa State. Gov. Sylva made this revelation recently at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. During AMAA Sponsors’ evening which attracted several topshots and captains of industry. In the same vein, the chief executive of AMAA, Peace Anyiam Osigwe said the award was set up primarily to promote African films and Cinema locally and internationally.
She noted African films serve as a link between Africans in Diaspora and Africans at home, adding that African films serve as a shared collective experience, a reminder that Africa is a vibrant continent filled with colour, energy and possibilities. “Over 30 African countries are participating in this year’s AMAA. We are expecting about 2000 foreign guests from within and outside Africa. AMAA has over 5 million television viewers as it is always aired live on local TV stations, African Magic and streamed online via You-Tube, international media like BBC, CNN and German ZDF, CNBC,SABC,AFP, cover AMAA every year. It is a big platform for discerning brands and organizations to leverage on. We are inviting corporate Nigeria to join as we sell Africa and Nigeria to the world in a positive way”, she said.
