The House of Representatives had on Wednesday declared their support to the Federal government for the decision to remove the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol and the increase in the price of the commodity.
They made this formal support during their meeting which was presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara.A litre of petroleum which was originally sold for N86.50 is now NI45.
The Federal government has also stated that it has not removed subsidy but only increased the price of fuel.
It would be recalled that the house invited the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to appear before it on Monday as well as the labour leaders to settle the on -going issue but Kachukwu said the government cannot go back on its decision.
In a bid to resolve the matter the House set up an ad hoc committee led by the Chief Whip of the House, Mr. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa to look into the matter. After the committee presented its report, the House declared their support to the Government on the fuel price increase.
