Footballers shouldn’t earn more than essential workers – Seun Kuti
Popular Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti, has opined that footballers shouldn’t earn more than essential workers.
Sparking a debate on social media, the singer lamented that footballers earned more than essential workers who risked their lives to serve the people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Noting the disparity in salaries which is not in favour of health practitioners and educators, Kuti emphasised that many young boys in his community play football without pay, while professional footballers receive astronomical sums.
“Collecting millions to chase ball around field, footballers are making millions weekly. Why should footballers be paid better than nurses and doctors? It’s not fair,” Seun said in part.
