After a 4-year legal battle, legendary Ghana midfielder, Nii Odartey Lamptey, has emerged victorious in the long-running divorce saga from his ex-wife, Gloria Appiah.
Four years after it emerged that the former Black Stars midfielder had been cuckolded by his ex-wife, a court in Accra ruled against her claim of 50% share of the footballer’s fortunes, DGA reports.
Lamptey’s world came crashing down 4 years ago with news of his wife’s adultery, particularly as DNA results revealed that three of their children were products of her illicit affairs.
A messy divorce saga soon ensued, with his wife of 21 years, Gloria, seeking half of the player’s fortunes in settlement.
However, Justice Cecilia Don-Chebe Agbevey of the High Court in Accra on Thursday ordered the estranged wife to vacate the footballer’s plush 7-bedroom East Legon apartment within 30 days, stating that she had no claims to his properties.
A relieved Lamptey told Starrsportsgh, “I thank God for taking me through this fight successfully because I didn’t know how far I could go. I’m grateful that the toils that I have gone through for the past 21 years did not go in vain.
When I was informed that the [three] children were not mine, I knew how I felt. Playing the role of a father to children I thought were mine for 21 years and realizing otherwise later, I nearly committed suicide.
God gave me renewed energy and courage to withstand these pains and today, I can say I have gotten over them all.
And today, with the final judgement, I thank God that my properties, my school and others, I have kept them.
She can take the little awarded her. Today the divorce has been granted and the burden that was on me is gone. Now, I’m a free and happy man, ready to start life again.”
Lamptey, who starred for Anderlecht and PSV in his playing days, has since moved on and now has two children with movie star, Ruweida Yakubu.
